JOINT MASTER IDENTITY, EDUCATION AND COMPETENCES FOR DEMOCRATIC CULTURE

The Joint MA Program “Identity, Education and Competences for Democratic Culture” is organized by the Department of Theology, the Department of Educational Studies, the Faculty of Philology of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and the European Wergeland Centre.

The Joint MA “Identity, Education and Competences for Democratic Culture” sheds light on the educational process on the basis of Human Rights, as well as the processes involved in the formation of people’s identity. The fundamental aim of the MA Program is to provide (future) educators (specializing in various fields and levels of education) with expertise in Competences for Democratic Culture, a rapidly developing area in Europe. The MA Programme aspires to contribute to the dissemination of democracy in every educational aspect and level from the Curriculum to the teaching methodology and the students’ lives in general.

The Joint MA Program lasts 1 full year including the summer semester. All educational processes utilize distance learning methods. There is a tuition fee of 3400 euros. However, students may be eligible to receive an exemption from tuition fees based on financial and social criteria. Students may also apply for a scholarship. Through its carefully designed Curriculum, the MA Programme offers a comprehensive theoretical, scientific and practical training by providing three (3) specializations for the students to choose. Students who successfully complete the specialization of their choice acquire a Master Degree, which awards 75 ECTS in total.

The specializations provided are listed below:

  1. Religion, Education and Competences for Democratic Culture
  2. Language, History and Literature in Education and Competences for Democratic Culture
  3. Education for Democratic Citizenship (EDC) and Human Rights Education (HRE) and Competences for Democratic Culture

The MA Programme is carried out in English and in Greek with a distinct English-speaking and Greek-speaking Curriculum. Applicants may choose the language of teaching, as well as the specialization they want to pursue in their application.
