Objectives of the Laboratory of Modern Greek Philology

The Laboratory of Modern Greek Philology was founded by the Department of Modern Greek Philology at National and Kapodistrian University of Athens in 2016 (Government Gazette issue 4274/30–12–2016 v. B). Its educational and research activities at undergaduate and postgraduate levels cover the following fields: Modern Greek Philology, Comparative literature and Theory of Literature.

The objectives of the Lab of Modern Greek Philology include the following:

  • the contribution to the research and teaching needs of the Department of Philology in the subject areas mentioned above.
  • the design, development, dissemination and evaluation of educational material in print and electronic form, as well as the design and implementation of methodological standards and exemplary teaching materials and practices.
  • the compilation and enrichment of archives and collections of documentation as well as the record, digitization and exploitation of different kinds of resources for research.
  • the establishment of a specialized research library with printed and/or electronic material as well as the compilation of audiovisual research collections.
  • the active involvement in the continuous upgrading of research activities in the Department of Philology in collaboration with its teaching staff, post-graduate students, as well as in collaboration with other research and academic bodies in Greece and abroad.
  • the participation or initiation of research projects and programs with a view to encourage creativity and innovation in broad interpretation issues of Modern Greek Philology, Comparative Literature and Literary Theory.
  • the continuous updating of the website with the  latest research activities of the Lab.
Research Projects

“The presence of cinema in Greek literary magazines in the second half of the twentieth century (1949-2009)”.

The research program “The presence of cinema in Greek literary magazines in the second half of the twentieth century (1949-2009)” was funded by ESPA Action:Reinforcement of Postdoctoral Researchers - 2nd Cycle” (ESPA 2014-2020) and was implemented between April 2020 to October 2021.

The aim of the project was to systematically collect and classify the textual material deriving from 12 post-war and post-junta Greek journals. More particularly, it has been created a digital database in order to make the annotated bibliographic entries more accessible to the research community and society.
