Research in the Faculty of Philology explores the rich and diverse heritage of humanity through the study of language, literature, philosophy and culture. From ancient Greek and Latin literature to contemporary literary and philosophical pursuits, research in the Department of Literature explores the dynamic evolution of ideas and written and oral expression across cultural periods and societies. Due to the importance of the above objectives, research in the Department is often funded by national and European resources, and the results are disseminated through publications in international conferences as well as through the Department's journals.
The research laboratories and the Folklore Museum contribute actively and decisively to the research of the Department.
